Iphone Apps Review

IPhone Apps - the stars I use to rate them are based on: how often I use it, ease of use, and price.

Snapture- this app enables your iphone camera to do lots of cool things- take black and white photos, sephia photos, 3 photos with 1 tap, and zoom functions. I think I paid $2 for it, overall, a great buy and pretty easy to use.
Four stars
Four square- basically just lets you “check-in” and let people know what bar/ restaurant you are currently hanging out at. Free, downloaded due to a mention on Paul Ryburns’s blog. I honestly just don’t have much opportunity to use it and it seems a bit pointless.
Three stars
Crosswords- hmmm, exactly how it sounds. They are usually too hard for me and I haven’t used it in a while. It’s easy to use at least.
Three and ½ stars
Scrabble- again, exactly how it sounds. You play against the computer, and it’s fun if you are bored at home or waiting in a line somewhere. Easy to use. I think I paid $3 for it.
Four stars
Bank of America- this application makes checking my balance and transferring my money between checking/ savings a complete breeze! Free
Five stars
Geico- I can pull up my insurance card in a second with this application or even pay my bill. I don’t use it often, but it’s a neat function to have. Free.
Four stars
The Sims 3- a mobile version of the popular game. Very easy to use, very addictive, and a total suck of your time. $10
Four stars
Wurdle- another word puzzle game. Fun, good for when you are stuck somewhere with nothing else to do (shopping, in the car passenger seat, at lunch with co-workers you are trying to ignore). I think it was a $1 or $2.
Four stars
Pandora- great app, but Im just not a huge fan. I rarely use it bc I just like the music already in my itunes better. Free.
Four stars
Inap at work- silly app that makes typing, cubicle noises while you take “a nap” at work. Has pretty realistic noises and is easy to use, I just downloaded bc I thought it sounded funny. I don’t use it for it’s intended purpose. $1.
Two stars
Clue- based on the classic board game. I found it too hard to use to enjoy it. $5.
One star
Monolopy- based on the classic board game. Easy to use, several different levels of skill, lots of fun although can be a bit of a time suck if you get real into it. $5.
Five stars
Echofon- the app I use to access twitter and post my way to many tweets. Easy to use, I actually like it better than the original twitter website. Free.
Five stars
Kindle for Iphone- THE BEST APP EVER. It turns your iphone into a Kindle, you can download and read books right on your phone! I am TOTALLY addicted. I read 3 – 4 books a week on this thing. Prices for best sellers are usually $5- $10, sometimes they will be on special for a few weeks for free to generate some interest after a recent release. Free for the app, various charges for books.
Five Stars
Movies by Flixster- so easy to use, makes finding a movie to see in your area at the theater so simple. Free.
Five stars
Facebook- The second best app ever. I use it neurotically all the time. Makes accessing FB on your phone much easier than going thru the full website via safari. Free.
Five stars
Pocket God- interactive game, got old and boring really quickly. $5
Two stars

Book Reviews!

I just finished reading "You Suck: A love story" by Christopher Moore. It can be summed up as a vampire comedy that's witty, bright, and funny. I LOVE the witty and snarky dialogue of the characters, which is trademark Christopher Moore style. His characters are always so creative and off the wall and the plots are totally unpredictable. I have read several of his other books, and they never fail to crack me up. "A Dirty Job: A novel" and "Lamb: The gospel according to Biff, Christ's childhood pal" are two other great books by him.
Earlier this week I read the Joe Pitt series by Charlie Huston. They are"Already Dead: A novel", "No Dominion", "Half the blood of Brooklyn", "Every Last Drop: A Novel", and "My Dead Body: A novel". I haven't finished the last one yet, but I will sometime this week. It is also about vampires. 5 vampire books in one week is a bit much, even for me! The Joe Pitt series focus on the "vampyre" culture of New York City. It is definitely not your usual take on vampires and goes in some really interesting directions. To me it almost seemed like a mafia book about vampires. The writing is extremely witty, dark, and sarcastic...which is probably a reason I liked the books so much. The dialogue between some of the characters became rather tedious and drawn out, especially in the later books in the series. This is my favorite quote from someone that reviewed the book online-
“…the joe pit books are like lord of the rings for people who like seriously fucked up shit.”
and that sums up the books pretty well.
Whew, reviewing books is hard. I'm going to have to practice on this. Since I read all the damn time, I should have plenty of chances to get better.

Hey it's me

And Me would be Lee Ann, of Memphis, TN. All my friends have blogs, and as it's saturday night and I don't have any plans (way to sound like a winner right off, huh?) so I figured I would make a blog. It's rainy and icky outside and my couch is might comfy this evening! So here is my first blog. Hopefully, it will get better with time. So the basics- I'm 30, live in midtown Memphis, have two of the cutest boxer dogs EVER, work in corporate america as a tax accountant, own rental property in midtown, love wine alot, love baking almost as much as wine, and find baking and drinking wine together are probably the best past time. I have recently reacquainted my fatter than I would like it ass with the gym and have been running again; I hope to run my first 5k this January. I read alot. About 3 or 4 books a week, really just anything I can get my hands on. Ok, so far this looks like the most boring blog entry ever. I swear I will try to make this a little more entertaining ASAP. What you will most likely find me blogging about on here are:
Funny stories about my life and my friends, probably involving booze
The books I read and whether or not they suck
My crazy mother
Awesome deals in Memphis (I am well known for my skills at hunting down bargains)
The horrific dates I seem to find myself on on a semi-regular basis
Snarky stories about work and co-workers
The latest app I'm obsessed with on my iphone

So those all seem like pretty decent topics, right? I think so. So let me go get the hang of this whole blog world and then I'll post something worth reading.
