Book Reviews!

I just finished reading "You Suck: A love story" by Christopher Moore. It can be summed up as a vampire comedy that's witty, bright, and funny. I LOVE the witty and snarky dialogue of the characters, which is trademark Christopher Moore style. His characters are always so creative and off the wall and the plots are totally unpredictable. I have read several of his other books, and they never fail to crack me up. "A Dirty Job: A novel" and "Lamb: The gospel according to Biff, Christ's childhood pal" are two other great books by him.
Earlier this week I read the Joe Pitt series by Charlie Huston. They are"Already Dead: A novel", "No Dominion", "Half the blood of Brooklyn", "Every Last Drop: A Novel", and "My Dead Body: A novel". I haven't finished the last one yet, but I will sometime this week. It is also about vampires. 5 vampire books in one week is a bit much, even for me! The Joe Pitt series focus on the "vampyre" culture of New York City. It is definitely not your usual take on vampires and goes in some really interesting directions. To me it almost seemed like a mafia book about vampires. The writing is extremely witty, dark, and sarcastic...which is probably a reason I liked the books so much. The dialogue between some of the characters became rather tedious and drawn out, especially in the later books in the series. This is my favorite quote from someone that reviewed the book online-
“…the joe pit books are like lord of the rings for people who like seriously fucked up shit.”
and that sums up the books pretty well.
Whew, reviewing books is hard. I'm going to have to practice on this. Since I read all the damn time, I should have plenty of chances to get better.
